Our Philosophy on Education

Our educational philosophy reflects the belief that learning takes place primarily through exploratory activities and discovery (play based learning). The amount of adult guidance varies with each activity, as it is our belief that a strong early childhood program offers both directed and non-directed learning opportunities. This allows children to interact, engage, and think about their actions and achievements throughout this play.

Our classrooms are designed to be child-centered with a wide range of materials and developmentally appropriate activities tailored to their needs. This allows your child to create, manipulate, explore, and discover according to their particular and unique interests and skill sets. Each child is valued and recognized as a unique individual with a large capacity for growth and development. Through both group and individual activities, our students are encouraged to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically at their own pace.

The atmosphere at Coulee Children’s Center is focused on time well spent doing meaningful and educational activities geared towards the interests and needs of our students. This allows them the freedom to be themselves and develop as a unique individual. Our dedicated teaching staff takes into consideration every child's differences, special abilities as well as family culture and values.

Coulee Children’s Center adopts the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Equity Statement. All children have the right to equitable learning opportunities that enable them to achieve their full potential as engaged learners and valued members of society.  (https://www.naeyc.org/resources/position-statements/equity)

Coulee Children’s Center believes that children of all ability levels are entitled to the same opportunities for participation, acceptance and belonging in early learning programming. We make every reasonable accommodation to encourage full and active participation of all children in our program based on his/her/their individual capabilities and needs.

Parent and Guardian Information

Parents, Guardians and children are encouraged to visit our center before enrollment. During this visit, you may tour the center, observe our staff, and learn about our programs. Visiting the center allows you and your child to get acquainted with the center and also gives us the opportunity to get to know you.

Daily contact between parents and teachers is integral to our child care program. By sharing information about your child's activities, we can work together to meet your child's needs. Parents of infants, toddlers and early preschool students will receive daily written notices describing special happenings during your child's day and tells you about your child's food intake, elimination, sleeping pattern, and general behavior. If there has been an unusual or special circumstance during the day, this information shall be passed on to the parent(s) verbally or in a written note.

We regularly inform parents of the program's plans through weekly lesson plans and menus. Parent participation and observation are encouraged. Parents who have a child enrolled in the program may visit anytime during the hours of operation.  Parents are encouraged to share their time and talents with the children and the program. We welcome and invite your suggestions and participation in events and activities.

We invite you to download our Parent Handbook to learn more about the programming here at Coulee Children's Center.
